PPE - Personal Protective Equipment
It is important for workers working with a lift truck battery to wear eye protection. Other PPG comprise safety glasses, goggles, or a full face shield. Emergency Eyewash Station
Near the charging area should be an emergency eyewash station. The route to the post must not be obstructed and a worker who is injured must be able to reach the eyewash station from the charging area within 10 seconds without running.
Charger Safety
The charger should be the same amperage as the battery. It should be turned off while the battery is being plugged in.
Open Flames
Open fire are not allowed near a charging area and battery. Do not permit things such as matches or lighters to be utilized while someone is inspecting the fluid levels in the battery.
Ventilation
It is essential to keep the battery charging place properly ventilated. The recharging method could release fumes. These fumes are both explosive and toxic.
