Solid Lift Truck Tire Safety
Over 200 deaths every year within North America are caused by lift trucks, or forklifts. Proper maintenance and inspection of forklift tires can help to reduce the risk of mishaps.

Pre-Work Check
Prior to the beginning of each shift, the tires on the lift truck should be inspected for indications of wear and damage. The air pressure in the tires must be checked to ensure the pressure is not too low. Having a tire pressure that is low can make the equipment prone to tip-overs while lifting loads.

Types of Tires
The tire type of the forklift will be based upon the kind of floor surface which the lift truck will operate on. Solid rubber tires are recommended for indoor application. For surfaces that are smooth, tires are usually smaller. Bigger pneumatic tires are best for lift trucks for outdoor applications. Pneumatic tires could grip rough surfaces well as they have rubber tread and are air-filled.

Other Considerations
Any lift truck utilized on a continual basis should be checked at the end of each shift, according to Occupational Health and Safety Administration guidelines. The tires must be inspected again for any sign of damage, such as wear or cuts.

Lift truck Safety
Forklift safety is important for any employee or employer utilizing a lift truck as lift truck accidents can be serious resulting in personal injuries and even death. Even minor mishaps can cost you and your company money if the merchandise or the forklift are damaged in a mishap. Be certain you are well informed regarding issues involved in lift truck safety.
