Size
On the back of the lift truck is a counterbalance, that allows the forklift to lift really heavy things. The counterbalance gives balance so that the machinery will not tip over while carrying and moving heavy cargo. Forklifts are rated based on their load capacity. A small lift truck which can carry 1800 kilograms weighs about 4000 kilograms, that is the same as two full-size pickup trucks. The biggest forklifts can lift things as heavy as 36,000 kilograms.

Considerations
In operating a lift truck, there are a lot of safety concerns. Like for example, travel in reverse while driving down a ramp. You should also haul a load in reverse if the load is bulky and interferes with vision. Operators should know how to mount the lift safely using the "three-point stance." This includes placing the right hand on the back of the seat, while gripping the upright of the safety cage using the left hand and placing the left foot on the step. Never jump out of a forklift even during a tip over. It is safer to remain inside the confines of the lift. Any slip or fall on a forklift can result in serious injuries.

Potential
Forklifts are considered indispensable tools in a lot of industries because they could be utilized to quickly and efficiently load and unload things and materials safely and with little physical exertion. Pedestrian safety is a major priority when operating in public spaces. Operators must always give pedestrians the right-of-way. A forklift must never be driven on uneven grounds or on a highway. The driver must have a seat belt firmly fastened at all times while driving.
