Types of Construction Lifts or Boom Lifts
A boom lift is a piece of machine which allows personnel to carry out jobs without having to build a scaffolding. They are used to do maintenance work, to work on elevated structures and are common equipment found in warehouse and factory settings as well.
Usually, construction lifts provide powered and wheeled bases which are capable of driving to the work place and have a platform on them which is responsible for lifting workers. There are many different kinds of lifts and each one is suited to various jobs and environment.
Bucket Trucks
Cherry pickers or bucket trucks, are built with a long boom which has a bucket attached at the end. This bucket area is where a worker can stand. Usually, bucket trucks are used by utility workers and by landscapers. Landscapers often use these kinds of machinery to cut trees.
Every bucket truck has a boom assembly mounted to a regular truck, that enables these vehicles to move swiftly on regular roads. Additionally, this increases the area that this machine can service efficiently. This is specially vital for power companies. Like for instance, many of these businesses use cherry pickers to elevate workers up so they can work on and reach transmission lines. The buckets need to be inspected on a regular basis and correctly insulated as they are working near potential shock hazards.
Articulated boom lifts are also called "knuckle lifts", and consist of a work platform that is mounted on an arm which is able to bend in order to reach around obstacles. The base of the lift includes a turntable and is capable of turning the lift in a complete circle. The base of the lift is mounted on wheels as well for extra mobility.
Typically, the articulated boom lift is used for landscaping projects but is also useful for maintenance work on projects that are already finished. Projects that do not need easy access directly beneath the jobsite. These lifts could be used for exterior electrical work and to repair piping, and difficult to clean areas. Usually knuckle lifts are driven by the employee in the platform with the boom extended.
