Narrow aisle forklifts
Frequently utilized within warehouse applications is the Narrow Aisle Forklift. These forklifts are important equipments within the industry since their small size and extreme maneuverability allow warehouses to make the most of storing space. They can easily negotiate aisles as narrow as 1.8 meters wide, while typical lift trucks need at least 3.4 meters of aisle width.
The two types are "narrow aisle forklift" and the "very narrow aisle forklift". The former require 2.4 meters - 3 meters in aisle width, whilst the latter could function in a 1.8 meters wide space.
The design of a narrow aisle forklift consists of forks positioned at right angles to the body of the truck. The trucks do not need to face the shelves, but instead drive straight down the aisle picking up loads to the side. This design feature is the key to their suitability for tight spaces.
Some very narrow aisle forklifts come with wire or optical guidance systems that ensure the forklift moves in a straight line down the aisle, which leaves the operator free to concentrate on load picking and placement.
The cushion tires that come with these kinds of lifts are made of solid rubber. The hard tires perform well on concrete floors and paved, smooth surfaces. Narrow aisle forklifts have electric motors suited for applications in indoor environments. Propane-powered models are available as well.
