There are 2 types of forklifts, based whether or not they run on electricity or gas:

Internal Combustion or IC Lift trucks: The Internal Combustion Forklifts run on liquid propane, gas, CNG or compressed natural gas or diesel. The gas powered units are made to be utilized outside since they produce pollutants and gases that could be harmful if inhaled. Models which run on gasoline are also great for use in bad weather and in the rain. These units can carry weights around 15,000 to 35,000 pounds. Due to the maintenance and fuel costs, units which run on gas are a lot more costly to utilize than models which run on electricity, although, they cost a lot less up front compared to electric powered units. Models that run on liquid propane are the best option for safe use in indoor applications.

Electric Lift Trucks: The electric lift truck units are powered by very large batteries which should be recharged. The vehicles do not produce any polluting air emissions as these models do not burn any fuel. They are the best option for warehouses and indoor use. Moreover, electric lift trucks do not need any fuel storage units and they are a lot quieter to run than other units. One of the disadvantages of electric powered models is that they could not lift cargo more than 15,000 pounds and thus, have a slower acceleration than the models that utilize gasoline.

The forklift is particularly designed to transport goods and materials quickly and easily. Mishaps do occur frequently like is the case with most types of equipments. There are specific safety rules which should be followed in order to keep everybody safe. The most vital issue is recruiting a qualified operator, who could show you a valid forklift license.

On the market these days, there are numerous different kinds of forklifts available. Deciding which one is best for your specific requirements would be based on the kinds of loads which you have to transport, what type of environment your machinery would need to operate in, like for example, indoors or outdoors or both. When you understand your particular needs, it will be very easy to match up to the right type of lift truck. When you understand all your requirements exactly you could make a correct choice.

Renting is another great way to check out different models if you want to check out different features and see what kind of options are available. This is a less expensive way to determine if the kind of machinery you have chosen could keep up with you on the job location.
